Hunt Area 94, Twin Creek, Wyoming

Open sagebrush basin and rolling hills south of Lander, Fremont County, Wyoming. Elevations roughly 5,500–7,500 ft. Drained by Twin Creek and its tributaries flowing toward the Sweetwater River. Landscape is classic Wyoming high-desert: sagebrush flats, dry draws, and rocky ridgelines. The Sweetwater River forms the southern boundary near the Phelps-Dodge Bridge, and Atlantic City / South Pass area lies to the southwest. Not high-alpine terrain; this is open, glassing country with long sight lines and limited timber.

Predominantly BLM public land with some Wyoming State land interspersed. The unit is bounded and accessed via US Highway 287, Wyoming Highway 28, Bison Basin Road (Fremont County Road 281 / BLM Road 3221), and Three Forks-Atlantic City Road (BLM Road 2317). Two Walk-In Hunting Areas (WIA) overlap the unit: WIA #2 (805 acres, open Aug 15–Jan 31) and WIA #22 (1,731 acres, open Aug 15–Dec 31). Private land holds portions of the better valley-bottom habitat; much of the prime hunting terrain requires navigating the patchwork of BLM and private parcels.

Dominant cover is big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata) with associated rabbitbrush, bitterbrush, and native grasses. Riparian corridors along Twin Creek and the Sweetwater River provide willows, cottonwoods, and improved forage. Limited juniper on rocky outcrops. No significant conifer timber component. Habitat quality is moderate; hunter reports note open country favoring long-range glassing with optics rather than still-hunting in timber.

Mule deer in this basin unit are largely resident non-migratory animals on the sagebrush flats. Deer concentrate in draws, riparian margins along Twin Creek and the Sweetwater River, and on north-facing slopes with better browse. Pronghorn also inhabit the open basin year-round. The unit is part of Region L which includes Areas 92, 94, 128, 148, 156, 157, 160, and 171 — mule deer from adjacent high-country units (92, 160) may shift seasonally into 94 during the October general season.

White-tailed deer harvest was zero in 2024 (36 active pooled hunters, 0% success) — white-tails are incidental in this unit. Pronghorn and elk presence is noted for the broader region (Elk 100 appears in WIA #22 overlap; antelope units 107 and 65 border the area) but neither is a primary draw for this hunt area specifically. Trophy quality reported as modest (forum sources note smaller bucks; limited draw pressure as a general tag area).
