Hunt Area 152, Lower Hoback, Wyoming

Hunt Area 152 (Lower Hoback) encompasses approximately 395.59 square miles in Lincoln, Teton, and Sublette counties. Elevation ranges from roughly 6,200 feet in valley bottoms to 10,425 feet on the high ridges. Vegetation transitions from sagebrush flats and cottonwood riparian corridors along the Hoback and Snake Rivers through dense conifer (lodgepole pine, Engelmann spruce) and aspen forests, to subalpine meadows and talus fields above treeline. Landforms include the Hoback River canyon, the Gros Ventre River drainage, Greyback Ridge, Steamboat Peak, Cache Peak, Pyramid Peak, and the Gros Ventre Wilderness in the northern section.

CWD carcass transport restrictions apply statewide in Wyoming — only deboned meat, cleaned skull caps/antlers, and hides without head attached may be transported out of Wyoming. The 2026 WGFD mandatory CWD sampling list does not include Area 152; however, the Department may add mandatory sampling areas by public notice before or during season. Check wgfd.wyo.gov for current mandatory sampling designations before hunting. Nonresident hunters entering the Gros Ventre Wilderness portion of the unit must be accompanied by a licensed professional guide or resident guide (WY Stat. 23-2-401). Elk hunting in this area uses a separate WGFD elk area numbering system — the Lower Hoback is Elk Hunt Area 84 in Chapter 7. An Elk Special Management Permit IS required for Area 84 (Ch.7 §7(a) lists Areas 80–98). Season dates are from the 2026 adopted Chapter 5, 6, and 7 regulations; confirm final adopted regulations at wgfd.wyo.gov before hunting.
