About this unit

Wyoming Hunt Area 141 (Green River) is a premier limited-quota mule deer unit in Sublette County's Pinedale Region, sitting almost entirely within Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Bridger Wilderness at 7,700–12,800 ft elevation. The unit is best hunted mid-to-late October when snow pushes mature bucks off the high-country Wind River and Wyoming Range divides into accessible sagebrush draws. The Sublette mule deer herd is recovering from severe 2022–23 winter losses and remains well below the population objective of 32,000 deer. Elk (Upper Green River herd, primarily areas 93, 95, 96) and pronghorn (antelope area 87) also occupy portions of this geography under separate chapter regulations.

Terrain & elevation

Rugged high-country drainage of the upper Green River between the Wyoming Range divide (Hoback Rim) to the west and the Continental Divide/Bridger Wilderness to the east. Elevations run approximately 7,700–12,800 ft for the deer unit (up to 13,800 ft in the Bridger Wilderness). Lower reaches along the Green River and Warren Bridge area feature sagebrush flats and river-bottom meadows that serve as critical mule deer winter and transitional range. Mid elevations carry grass-sagebrush parklands. Upper elevations are forested (Engelmann spruce, subalpine fir) transitioning to alpine rock and talus above timberline. The unit encompasses approximately 507 sq mi.
