Hunt Area 105, Beartooth, Wyoming

Hunt Area 105 (Beartooth) encompasses all Wyoming land north of the Clark's Fork River and west of Wyoming Highway 120 in Park County. Elevation ranges from approximately 6,574 to 9,583 feet (GoHunt). The lower eastern portion holds private agricultural lands with moderate topography and small canyons. Mid-elevations transition to long, steep canyons with rugged terrain. The central and western sections are dominated by Shoshone National Forest, including high-country areas above timberline featuring shale slides and rocky canyon walls. The Clark's Fork River — a federally designated Wild and Scenic River — forms the southern boundary. Vegetation transitions from sagebrush-grassland at lower elevations through mixed conifer forest (lodgepole pine, spruce-fir) to alpine tundra at the highest elevations. Grizzly bear habitat is present throughout the national forest portions.

CWD confirmed in Hunt Area 105 since 2019. Area 105 is part of the Clarks Fork mule deer herd (Areas 105, 106, 109) and is designated a priority voluntary CWD sampling area — WGFD requests (but does not mandate for general hunters) sample submission. Mandatory CWD submission applies only to Type 1 and Type 7 license holders in Area 164. Wyoming carcass transport rules apply: hunters taking deer from a CWD-positive area must leave the head and all spinal column portions at the kill site or dispose in an approved Wyoming landfill before transporting outside the CWD zone. The Chapter 6 PDF downloaded is a draft as of the research date (July 2026; version CH 6 Draft 03.16.2026.4) and was approved by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission but subject to gubernatorial approval (up to 75 days). Pronghorn antelope: the antelope Chapter 5 PDF does not list a Hunt Area 105 in the Beartooth/Park County region — no antelope seasons appear to be available in Deer Hunt Area 105; antelope habitat in this area is limited. Elk hunting in the geographic footprint of Deer Area 105 is administered under Elk Hunt Areas 51 (Sunlight-Crandall) and 54 (Bald Ridge) per Chapter 7; these have Type 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 9 limited quota licenses. Wyoming nonresident wilderness rule: nonresidents must have a licensed Wyoming guide or a Wyoming resident companion (with free non-commercial guide license) to hunt in any federally designated Wilderness — this applies to the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness portions of Area 105.
