Low overall. Sparse population and agricultural character keep resident hunter numbers down; out-of-area pheasant hunters travel in when bird numbers are favorable.

Standard TPWD tags cover both mule deer and white-tailed deer. Mule deer are present along eastern escarpment edges; white-tailed deer increase toward the eastern county margins. Confirm mule deer-specific regulations in the current TPWD proclamation.

Ring-necked pheasant are the signature draw — populations fluctuate with habitat conditions but peak years attract dedicated bird hunters. Migratory sandhill cranes and waterfowl use the playa lake systems seasonally. Mule deer inhabit the rougher western terrain.
