Timbered creek bottoms along the Trinity River system hold surprising deer numbers despite intense suburban and agricultural pressure on the surrounding landscape. The county sees fierce hunting competition given its location at the doorstep of one of the largest metro areas in the nation.
Flat to gently rolling Blackland Prairie transitioning to Post Oak Savannah in eastern portions. Heavy black clay soils dominate the west while sandy loam prevails in the east. Timbered creek bottoms along the East Fork Trinity River provide essential wildlife corridors through an otherwise fragmented landscape.
Predominantly private land. Limited public access near Lake Tawakoni and some Corps of Engineers tracts. Most hunting requires securing a private lease, which commands premium prices given metro proximity.
High - proximity to the DFW metro of over 7 million residents creates intense demand for available hunting land. Leases turn over quickly and competition among hunters is fierce.
