White-tailed deer are the primary quarry in the river bottoms and wooded creek drainages, with fair to good densities on well-managed private ranches. Most hunting occurs on private leases with limited public opportunity, reflecting the broader southeast Texas lease culture.
Gently rolling Post Oak Savannah with Brazos River bottomlands, creek hardwood corridors, improved pastures, and scattered woodlands transitioning toward the Gulf Coast prairies.
Almost entirely private; no major WMAs in the county; limited Corps of Engineers access points along the Brazos River.
