Sign in to contributeWMU 3D encompasses northeastern Pennsylvania's Pocono Plateau region, covering portions of Pike, Wayne, Monroe, Carbon, and Lackawanna counties — a sprawling 2,102 square-mile unit with nearly 30 percent public land including multiple State Game Lands, Promised Land State Park, and Delaware State Forest. The unit is a CWD Alert Area and offers exceptional black bear hunting with a 2021 harvest of 426 bears, liberal antlerless deer allocations around 41,000 tags, and strong turkey populations currently under active research trapping programs.
Pocono Plateau — rolling hardwood ridges, glacially formed lakes and wetlands, hemlock-lined drainages, mixed oak-maple-beech forest; elevation 1,200–2,000 ft; classic northeast PA ridge-and-swamp topography with abundant edge cover
Approximately 625 sq mi (30%) public land; State Game Lands 38, 91, 129, 135, 183, 300, 310, 312 within the unit; Delaware State Forest (roughly 700,000 acres statewide, with significant blocks in Monroe/Pike); Promised Land State Park; no National Forest within unit

Antlered deer OTC with general license (1 per year); antlerless allocation approximately 41,000 tags for 2024-25 — among the most liberal in the state; WMU 3D is a CWD Alert Area requiring carcass transport restrictions
Deer: archery Oct 3–Nov 20 and Dec 26–Jan 24; regular firearms Nov 28–Dec 13; flintlock Dec 26–Jan 24; antlerless requires separate WMU-specific license. Bear: archery Oct 3–Nov 20 (WMU 3D/3C extended); regular firearms Nov 21–24; 1 bear per license year; excellent success rates. Turkey spring gobbler May 1–15 (dawn to noon) and May 16–31 (dawn to dusk), 1 bird limit; fall turkey Oct 31–Nov 15, 1 bird limit; PGC conducting active flock research in 3D. Elk: not present — PA elk range is in WMU 2G (Elk/Cameron/Clinton counties north-central PA); no elk season applicable to WMU 3D.
One of Pennsylvania's top black bear units (426 harvested in 2021); liberal antlerless doe tag allocation makes it very hunter-friendly for whitetail; large contiguous public land blocks on multiple SGLs; active PGC turkey flock research program with GPS-tracked birds; good deer density with hunters reporting low competition on game lands
