WMU 2C, Pennsylvania

Vast northcentral Allegheny Plateau — rolling ridges and dissected plateau broken by steep stream valleys, predominantly second-growth hardwood forest (oak, maple, cherry) with interspersed conifer stands and early-successional clearcuts. Elevation ranges roughly 800–2,200 ft. Remote and roadless in much of the interior, draining west via West Branch Susquehanna tributaries.

Antlered deer: one per hunter statewide OTC with general license. Antlerless: WMU 2C receives a very liberal allocation — 93,000–117,000 antlerless licenses in recent years (one of the highest quotas in the state), reflecting the PGC's objective to reduce a large resident deer population. Residents get a guaranteed first antlerless tag June–July; additional tags available through quota rounds. Antler restrictions apply (minimum 3 points on one side).

DEER: Archery Oct 4–Nov 20 and Dec 26–Jan 24; rifle season Nov 21–Dec 5 (2026-27); muzzleloader Dec 26–Jan 16. Antler restriction WMU. BEAR: Archery bear Oct 17–25; muzzleloader Oct 22–25; general firearms Nov 28–Dec 7 (statewide general season). Clinton and Lycoming counties historically top-5 bear harvest counties in PA. TURKEY: Spring gobbler May 1–31 (1 bearded bird); fall turkey Oct 31–Nov 20 and Nov 25–27 (WMUs 2B/2C/2D/2E grouping), shotgun and archery only. ELK: WMU 2C is not part of the PA elk zone — elk seasons are restricted to WMU 2G and adjacent units in the Benezette area of Elk and Cameron counties.

One of PA's largest and most remote hunting units with minimal road access in the interior. Outstanding black bear numbers — Clinton and Lycoming counties among the top bear-producing counties in the state. Liberal antlerless allocations mean multiple doe tags are realistically achievable. Low hunting pressure relative to the rest of the state thanks to rugged terrain and limited road networks. Sproul State Forest provides backcountry wilderness-style hunting rarely found in the Northeast.
