DMZ 68 covers the Franklin Parker Preserve and Four Mile Spring Preserve in Woodland Township, Burlington County — a sprawling Pine Barrens landscape of cedar bogs, pitch pine flatlands, and cranberry bogs managed for wildlife. Hunters must obtain limited-quota special zone permits; once in, antlerless opportunity is generous with an unlimited antlerless bag limit. Access is primarily through the conservation-managed Franklin Parker Preserve, making this a low-pressure, quality public-land deer hunting experience in the heart of the Pinelands.

Terrain & elevation

Pine Barrens flatlands — pitch pine and scrub oak uplands, Atlantic white cedar swamps, cranberry bogs, and sandy stream corridors typical of the Burlington County Pinelands. Elevation is low and relatively uniform. Dense understory provides excellent deer cover.

low

Species & seasons

Deer: Regulation Set #6 applies. Fall bow season open second Saturday in September through last Friday in October. Permit bow, permit muzzleloader, and permit shotgun seasons also available with zone-specific permits — limited quota, so apply early. Bag limit: 1 antlered deer plus unlimited antlerless deer. During the shotgun permit season concurrent with the statewide 6-day firearm season, only antlerless deer may be taken. Bear: Not present — DMZ 68 is in Burlington County, well outside the northern NJ bear range (Sussex, Warren, Passaic, Morris counties). Turkey: Eastern wild turkey present in the Pine Barrens; NJ spring turkey season applies statewide. No special zone restrictions on turkey hunting.

Highlights

Limited-quota special permit zone meaning hunter numbers are controlled and pressure is very low. Unlimited antlerless bag limit rewards successful permit holders. Pine Barrens deer tend to be wary and well-adapted to dense cover, offering a true wilderness hunting experience within an hour of Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore. Fall bow season opens the second Saturday in September through the last Friday in October.
