DMZ 63, New Jersey

Flat tidal marsh, brackish wetlands, and productive agricultural fields in the Delaware River lowlands of southwestern Salem County. The zone is bounded by the Salem Canal to the north, the Salem River to the east, Alloway Creek to the south, and the Delaware River/NJ state line to the west. Elevation is minimal; habitat is a mix of open marsh, hedgerows, woodlots, and row-crop farmland.

Deer: Fall Bow season (mid-September through October), Permit Bow (November 1 through December), six-day firearm season (December), Permit Shotgun (zone-specific dates, typically December through mid-February), Permit Muzzleloader (January). Antlered buck must have at least three points on one side. Antlerless permits are zone-specific and available by application. Turkey: Salem County falls within Turkey Hunting Area 20; public turkey hunting available on Salem River WMA and other area WMAs. Spring season runs late April through May; permits by lottery then OTC. Fall turkey season also available. No bear hunting — DMZ 63 is in southern Salem County, well outside the NJ black bear management zone (which is restricted to Sussex, Warren, Passaic, and Morris counties in the north).

Productive agricultural corridor with a large deer herd supported by corn and soybean fields. Tidal marsh edges along the Delaware River provide natural deer travel corridors. Supawna Meadows NWR offers archery-accessible federal public land with minimal competition. Zone lies well outside the suburban core, giving it more of a rural South Jersey character. The three-point antler restriction encourages buck age structure.
