DMZ 30, New Jersey

Low-elevation coastal plain and river-bottom zone in southwest New Jersey. Terrain is flat to gently rolling with extensive tidal marshes, freshwater wetlands, bottomland hardwoods, pine woodlands, and agricultural fields. Primary water features are the Cohansey River (north boundary), Delaware River (west), and Maurice River (east), all forming zone boundaries.

Deer: Full season suite available — Fall Bow (Sept 13–Oct 31), Permit Bow (Nov 1–Dec 31), Six-Day Firearm (Dec 8–13), Permit Muzzleloader and Permit Shotgun (Nov 24–Feb 14, varies). APR in effect: minimum 3 antler points on one side required for antlered buck harvest. Regulation Set 3 applies; antlerless permit tags required for antlerless harvest. Turkey: Spring season only (approx. late April–late May), permit via lottery; fall turkey season closed statewide as of 2025. Bear: Black bear populations in Cumberland County are low; this zone is in the southern NJ range and is not a primary bear hunting destination — no bear season allocation historically for this zone. Bear hunting in NJ is concentrated in northwest counties (Sussex, Passaic, Warren, Morris).

Multiple large WMAs provide genuine walk-in public hunting on coastal plain terrain. Agricultural-edge habitat supports healthy deer numbers. Egg Island and Fortescue WMAs offer unique marsh-edge hunting. Antler point restrictions (APR) apply — only antlered deer with at least 3 points on one side may be harvested (exception: youth hunters on Youth Firearm Day). Fall turkey season was closed statewide beginning fall 2025; spring turkey hunting remains permit-based via lottery.
