New Jersey Pinelands lowlands — pitch pine and scrub oak uplands, Atlantic white cedar bogs and swamps, sandy soil and sand roads, numerous ponds and impoundments. Flat to gently rolling. Zone boundary runs from Route 530 near South Toms River south along the Garden State Parkway to Route 72, northwest through Burlington County past Browns Mills, and east along Route 70 back to Route 530 near Whiting. Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (Zone 37) is excluded from the zone.

Deer: DMZ 21 falls under Regulation Set 0 — the most restrictive in NJ. Bag limit is 1 deer of either sex per season for bow, permit shotgun, and muzzleloader seasons. Six-day Firearm Season (Dec. 8-13) allows 2 antlered deer statewide. Antlerless permits are zone-specific and limited; hunters should check current NJDEP quota allocations. No rifle allowed for deer statewide (shotgun or muzzleloader for firearms). Bear: no bear hunting — black bear range is confined to northern NJ (Sussex, Warren, Passaic, Morris counties); DMZ 21 is outside bear zone. Turkey: spring lottery permits through NJDEP; THA 14 covers much of this area. Fall archery turkey available in limited areas.

One of New Jersey's largest contiguous blocks of public hunting land. Greenwood Forest WMA alone rivals the size of many entire state hunting units. Miles of sand roads allow deep access on foot, by ATV (where permitted), or mountain bike. Cedar swamp funnels and oak-edge pockets concentrate deer during the rut. Turkey hunting is available through spring lottery in Turkey Hunting Area 14.
