DMZ 18, New Jersey

Ocean County Pinelands — pine-oak uplands, hardwood swamps, Atlantic white cedar stands, managed impoundments, and open fields. Flat to gently rolling Sandy Pinelands topography. Zone is bordered by Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (excluded from hunting) to the southwest.

Moderate — Colliers Mills WMA receives consistent use but is large enough to absorb pressure. Zone benefits from adjacency to the base exclusion zone which acts as a deer sanctuary and pushes animals into huntable areas.

Deer (Regulation Set #2): Fall Bow Sept 13 – Oct 31; Permit Bow Nov 1 – Nov 22; Youth Day Firearm Nov 22; Six-Day Firearm Dec 8–13; Permit Muzzleloader Dec 1–2 and Dec 15–16 and Dec 20–24 and Dec 26–31; Permit Shotgun Dec 17–19 and Jan 3 – Feb 14; Winter Bow Jan 1 – Feb 21. Antlerless permits zone-specific, one per zone per season. Turkey: Spring season April–May (THA 14, permit via lottery then OTC); fall archery turkey limited draw Sept 20–26. Bear: Not applicable — DMZ 18 is in Ocean County, outside the northern NJ black bear management zone.

Colliers Mills WMA is one of NJ's most productive public deer hunting destinations. Deer density is high, fueled in part by the neighboring Joint Base sanctuary effect. Turkey hunting is strong, falling within Turkey Harvest Area 14 which is noted for competitive spring lottery interest. Full firearm seasons are permitted (no shotgun-only restriction), and the WMA's archery, muzzleloader, and rifle ranges support hunter practice. No bear hunting — DMZ 18 is outside the northern NJ bear range (Sussex/Warren/Passaic/Morris counties).
