Northern Coos County river-bottom valley transitioning to steep hardwood ridges and boreal softwood forest. The Connecticut River floodplain provides rare agricultural pockets (hay and corn fields) that concentrate deer, while logged clearcuts and softwood edges on surrounding uplands offer bedding cover. Elevations range from roughly 900 ft along the river to 2,000+ ft on surrounding ridges. Mixed northern hardwood-softwood composition dominates with significant spruce-fir component in higher terrain.

WMU B is a northern unit — antlerless permit availability is limited compared to southern units. The special antlerless permit (AOP/DOP) programs highlighted by NHFG focus on Units L and M in the south; northern units like B have historically not offered large antlerless permit allocations, making B effectively a buck-only unit for most hunters outside of any-deer license holders. Check current NHFG digest for any bonus antlerless opportunities. Standard deer license includes one buck tag; muzzleloader either-sex opportunity may apply during designated periods.

Antlerless permits for WMU B are not part of the large-scale L/M allocation programs — northern unit antlerless opportunities are limited; verify annually with NHFG. BEAR: Season runs Sept 1 through approximately Nov 11 in WMU B. Bear permit required; baiting allowed on private land with permit. Northern WMUs A, B, C hold the highest bear densities in the state. TURKEY: Fall archery turkey Sept 15–Dec 15 statewide including WMU B. Fall shotgun season in select WMUs only — verify if B is included. Spring season (April–May): only one spring bird may be taken in WMU B (second spring bird restricted to southern WMUs H1, H2, J2, K, L, M). MOOSE: Permit-only via annual lottery (mid-January through late May application window). WMU B allocated approximately 7 permits; bonus point system rewards consecutive applicants. Season typically runs mid-to-late October. WMU B produced a 57.5-inch bull in the 2025 season.

One of NH's most remote and lightly pressured hunting units. Large-bodied bucks are possible in the thick boreal transition zones. Seven moose permits are allocated to WMU B via the statewide lottery — the unit produced the largest moose in the 2025 harvest (57.5-inch spread). Bear density is among the highest in the state, with baiting permitted on private land (baiting permit required on state land). The Connecticut River valley corridor is the northernmost stronghold for turkeys in NH, with fall archery opportunities statewide.
