Tallahatchie County, Mississippi

Divided between western Delta flatlands and eastern North Central Hills. The Tallahatchie River bisects the county creating extensive bottomland hardwood flats. Agricultural fields dominate the Delta portions while mixed pine-hardwood forest covers the hill sections. Enid Lake reservoir borders the eastern county edge.

Low to moderate. The county divided geography spreads pressure between Delta and hill country hunters. Enid Lake COE land is accessible but large enough to absorb pressure. River bottom private leases are sought but not as premium-priced as further south Delta counties.

Mississippi OTC statewide license with harvest record. No antler restrictions county-wide. Enid Lake COE land may have specific check station or quota requirements for certain seasons.

Waterfowl hunting along the Tallahatchie River and in the Delta portions can be productive for mallards and wood ducks, particularly after high water events flood agricultural fields. Wild turkey inhabit both the river bottoms and eastern hill forest. Crappie fishing on Enid Lake draws as many visitors as hunting.

Enid Lake Corps of Engineers hunting land provides genuine public access to both bottomland hardwood deer habitat and adjacent upland turkey ground. The county transition zone location between Delta and hills gives hunters access to both Mississippi landscape types.
