The county's terrain is a mix of National Forest uplands and private farmland, with deer populations supported by both timber company land and agricultural edges. Wild turkey are well-established across the county's forested ridges and creek drainages.
Gently rolling central Mississippi uplands with mixed longleaf and loblolly pine-hardwood forest. The Leaf River and its tributaries drain the southern portions. Bienville National Forest land covers substantial acreage in the county northern and central sections.
Bienville National Forest provides extensive public hunting access with established roads, WMA designations, and deer camps. Scott County WMA adds additional acreage. Remainder of county is private timberland and farm ground, often available through lease arrangements.

Wild turkey hunting in the Bienville National Forest is a regional draw with strong gobbler populations in the mixed pine-hardwood understory. Small game hunters pursue squirrel in the hardwood creek bottoms. Quail populations have declined but some coveys remain on private agricultural ground.
Bienville National Forest access makes Scott County one of central Mississippi premier public land deer and turkey destinations. The forest road network allows hunters to reach interior timber without lengthy hikes.
