Dove hunting available in agricultural fields during the early September season. River access at Rebel's Cove supports waterfowl hunting opportunities along the Chariton.

Putnam County is one of north Missouri's overlooked trophy destinations, consistently cited alongside Adair, Scotland, Sullivan, and Knox counties as producing mature, heavy-racked bucks.
