Saline Valley Conservation Area is the main draw — nearly 5,000 acres of unbroken Ozarks timber with creek-bottom corridors that concentrate deer during the rut, making it one of the more substantial walk-in public tracts in central Missouri. The Osage River corridor along the county's north edge delivers classic bluff-top and bottomland stand sites accessible by boat from Tuscumbia, Kings Bluff, and Bagnell Dam accesses, offering a genuine wilderness feel rare this close to Lake of the Ozarks. The 2025 CWD zone designation removed the antler-point restriction, giving hunters flexibility to harvest any legal antlered deer. Miller County sits in the heart of the Ozark oak-hickory mast belt, and in strong acorn years deer activity on ridges can be exceptional. Trophy potential is moderate — Ozarks deer run slightly smaller than northern Missouri agricultural counties, but mature bucks exist in deep timber with comparatively low hunting pressure. The timber/bottomland/glade mosaic on Saline Valley supports healthy turkey populations as well, rounding out a two-species public-land hunt on a single destination.
