Flat to gently rolling southeast Minnesota farmland; 77% annual row crops, 9% grassland and wetlands, 4% woody cover, 10% developed. Deer habitat confined to riparian corridors, stream-edge woodlands, grassy waterways, marshes, and brushy draws associated with rivers and small tributaries in Mower and Dodge counties.

Extremely limited public access — only 2.1% of the 392 sq mi open to public hunting. The land base is overwhelmingly private agricultural land near Austin MN and small towns. No significant WMAs, state forests, or national forest units. Walk-in access is zero. A deer feeding and attractant ban is in effect for both Dodge and Mower Counties due to CWD management.

Deer are the primary quarry with a 3-deer limit (2D designation) and consistent adult and fawn sightings. Wild turkey are present and huntable in both Mower and Dodge counties. Ring-necked pheasant inhabit grassy waterways and crop-edge cover throughout the area. Ruffed grouse and black bear are absent — habitat is open farmland with insufficient forest cover.

Three-deer bag limit with robust deer numbers and 42% firearm hunter success rate. Deer harvest skews heavily antlerless due to ag-country doe populations. CWD optional testing available. Turkey hunting available in Dodge County zones. Pheasant present in row-crop edges and grassland strips. Access is the primary challenge — landowner relationships are essential.
