Sign in to contributeDPA 235 is a central Minnesota farmland permit area (Zone 200) characterized by rolling agricultural land interspersed with woodlots, wetlands, and river-bottom timber in the Kandiyohi/Meeker county region. Deer densities are solid in this productive farmland corridor, though antlerless tags require a lottery draw and the area sees moderate-to-high hunting pressure driven largely by private-land access. Public hunters will find scattered WMAs providing upland and edge habitat, but the best ground is predominantly private ag land.
Rolling central Minnesota agricultural landscape — corn, soybean, and small-grain fields dominate, broken by hardwood woodlots, cattail wetlands, and creek/river-bottom timber. Transition zone between prairie and deciduous forest gives varied edge habitat typical of Zone 200 farmland DPAs.
Predominantly private agricultural land; public access limited to scattered DNR Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and county parcels. Minnesota has 1,440 WMAs statewide and several small WMAs fall within or adjacent to DPA 235. Permission hunting on private farmland is essential for quality deer hunting in this area; public land pockets receive heavier pressure.

White-tailed deer are the primary big-game target; bucks-only OTC for firearms/muzzleloader with antlerless via lottery draw. Wild turkeys are present and huntable — spring turkey draw required, fall over-the-counter available in farmland zones. Ring-necked pheasants are present on WMAs and grassland edges, especially in the Kandiyohi/Meeker corridor which is within the productive west-central pheasant belt. Ruffed grouse occur in woodlot and brush-edge habitat though are secondary to pheasant in this agricultural landscape. No black bear season in Zone 200 farmland DPAs.
