Deer populations are high, fed by abundant agricultural forage, but the county's private land-dominated landscape makes access the defining challenge. Hunters with farm connections or willing to pay lease rates encounter some of the best trophy deer country in central Kentucky.
Flat to gently rolling limestone plain; fertile Bluegrass soils support row crops and pasture; scattered woodlots and creek corridors provide cover amid a broad agricultural expanse.
Almost entirely private; minimal public land; deer hunting is driven by lease arrangements or longstanding landowner relationships.
Moderate on leased ground, effectively low on truly accessible public land which is nearly absent.
Over-the-counter archery, crossbow, and firearm tags; standard Kentucky antler restrictions apply.
Wild turkey use woodlot edges and creek corridors throughout the county; small-game hunting for squirrel and rabbit is available on private farms.
