White-tailed deer are abundant, feeding heavily on the agricultural bounty before seeking cover in sparse creek-bottom timber and CRP grasslands. Hunting is almost entirely on private land, though willing landowners can yield remarkable opportunities in a county that produces consistently large-bodied deer.
Extremely flat glacial till plain dominated by corn and soybean fields; Mackinaw River and its tributaries cut modest timber corridors through the agricultural matrix; scattered woodlots are limited but hold concentrated deer populations.
Moraine View State Recreation Area and Comlara Park near Hudson offer limited public hunting; the vast majority of the county is private farmland where access requires landowner permission.
