White-tailed deer and wild turkey are the primary quarry, with bucks utilizing fence-line corridors and creek drainages between agricultural fields. Argyle Lake State Park provides the most reliable public hunting access in the county.
Gently rolling row-crop uplands with creek-bottom hardwood timber along major drainages; Argyle Lake impounds Argyle Creek on the county interior; terrain is more rolling than the flat prairie counties to the east, providing better deer travel cover.
Argyle Lake State Park offers public hunting on several hundred acres of mixed timber and grassland; the remainder of the county is private agricultural land where access requires landowner permission.
