DMU Terrell, Georgia

Terrell County sits in the upper Coastal Plain of southwest Georgia, with gently rolling to flat terrain at 300–400 feet elevation. Land cover is dominated by row crops — peanuts, cotton, and corn — interspersed with isolated hardwood bottoms and pine plantations along creek drainages. Chickasawhatchee Creek and Ichawaynochaway Creek and their tributaries cut through the county, creating narrow creek-bottom corridors with mixed hardwood cover. The agricultural mosaic of open fields and wooded edges produces excellent deer nutrition and movement corridors.

Low to moderate. Terrell County's private-land-only character means hunting access is controlled by lease arrangements and plantation operations, keeping WMA-style crowding absent. Controlled access on private tracts holds hunter density low overall, though active lease clubs and plantation operations can concentrate pressure on high-value creek bottoms and ag-field edges during the rut.

Statewide limit: 12 deer per season, no more than 10 antlerless and no more than 2 antlered. One buck must meet the Quality Buck standard — minimum 4 antler points at least 1 inch long on one side, or a 15-inch outside spread; the second buck needs only visible antlers above the hairline. No additional county antler restrictions apply to Terrell County. Either-sex shooting is permitted throughout the Green region firearms season. Early antlerless-only firearms weekend on private land: Oct 4–5, 2025.

Turkey: Spring private-land season March 28 – May 15, 2026, limit 2 gobblers per season; WMA/public-land season April 4 – May 15. Feral hogs: no closed season and no bag limit on private land; may be taken year-round including at night with a light and over bait; WMA hog and coyote season May 16–31. Small game (quail, dove, rabbit, squirrel) available per statewide seasons. Waterfowl hunting possible along farm ponds and creek drainages.

Southwest Georgia's row-crop agricultural landscape — peanuts, cotton, corn — creates exceptional nutrition for whitetails and supports a deer herd with strong antler genetics. Terrell County lies within the Flint River Basin corridor, a region consistently producing trophy-class bucks, with neighboring Dougherty and Worth counties ranking among Georgia's top producers of 140-inch-class deer. The county is classic Georgia plantation country: large privately managed tracts stewarded primarily for quail hunting also provide well-managed deer habitat with light harvest pressure. Hunters who secure private access find a productive, uncrowded destination with genuine big-buck potential.
