Pulaski County occupies Georgia's Upper Coastal Plain, a flat to gently rolling landscape defined by the Ocmulgee River corridor. The county seat Hawkinsville sits on the Ocmulgee, whose floodplain up to three miles wide holds hardwood swamps, oxbow lakes, and creek bottoms of bottomland oak, sweetgum, and cypress. Uplands support pine plantations, mixed pine-hardwood, and row-crop agriculture. Elevation is generally 200 to 300 feet with minimal topographic relief — firmly in Coastal Plain country, well south of the fall line, with no Piedmont or mountain influence.

Moderate. The Ocmulgee WMA is recognized for above-average deer and turkey hunter success rates within the Georgia WMA system, drawing hunters from across central Georgia but also signaling strong deer density. Pressure peaks on opening firearms weekend and either-sex days; weekday hunting is considerably lighter. Private land is largely lease or invitation-only, and the multi-county spread of each WMA keeps overall density manageable for hunters who scout and hunt mid-week.

Georgia statewide limit is 12 deer per season — up to 10 antlerless and no more than 2 bucks, with one buck required to meet the Quality Buck standard (minimum 4 antler points one inch or longer on one side, or 15-inch outside antler spread). Pulaski County falls in the Green management region; either-sex firearms harvest is permitted throughout most of the firearms season, including a special early two-day antlerless-only firearms opportunity in early October for Green region counties. Season structure: Archery Sept. 13 - Jan. 11; Primitive Weapons Oct. 11-17; Firearms Oct. 18 - Jan. 11.

White-tailed deer are the primary big game target across all three seasons (archery, primitive weapons, firearms). Eastern wild turkey spring season runs approximately late March through mid-May, with private land opening late March and public WMA land opening roughly one week later in early April. Feral hogs may be taken year-round on private land with no bag limit; a special WMA hog season runs May 16-31. Small game including squirrel, rabbit, and dove is available per statewide seasons. Despite the Central Georgia black bear population utilizing both Oaky Woods and Ocmulgee WMAs, no bear hunting is permitted on either area.

The Ocmulgee River bottomland defines the county's hunting character — miles of hardwood swamp, oxbow habitat, and mast-rich creek drainages that concentrate deer and hold turkey year-round. The Ocmulgee WMA has earned recognition among Georgia public land hunters for above-average success rates. Oaky Woods adds a second large contiguous public block with hog hunting and unique ecological value as Central Georgia black bear habitat. Liberal antlerless limits (up to 10 does) make the county well-suited for meat hunters. The Upper Coastal Plain setting delivers consistent November rut activity, mild late-season archery conditions, and natural river-bottom funnel stand sites near hardwood mast.
