DMU Pike, Georgia

A 216-square-mile Piedmont county in west-central Georgia, defined by gently rolling hills of eroded metamorphic and igneous bedrock, with elevations ranging from roughly 700 to 1,270 feet. The landscape blends pine plantation, mixed pine-hardwood forest, hardwood river bottoms, and agricultural land including poultry operations. The Flint River runs along approximately 22 miles of the county's western border, creating productive bottomland habitat. Classic Georgia Piedmont foothills country with no mountain ridges and no coastal plain flatwoods.

Low to moderate relative to Georgia as a whole. The absence of public WMAs eliminates the regional draw that concentrates pressure on popular state lands. Hunting is spread across private tracts with a primarily local hunter base. Pike County is not among Georgia's established trophy destinations, limiting out-of-county hunting tourism.

Statewide limit of 12 deer per season, with a maximum of 10 antlerless and 2 antlered. Pike County falls in the Green region where either-sex harvest is allowed every day of firearms season. One of the two bucks must meet Quality Buck criteria—at least four points one inch or longer on one side, or a minimum 15-inch outside spread; the second may be any buck with antlers visible above the hairline. A special antlerless-only firearms weekend applies October 4-5. All harvested deer must be reported through Georgia Game Check within 24 hours.

Deer: archery September 13–January 11; primitive weapons and youth October 11–January 11; firearms October 18–January 11; antlerless-only firearms weekend October 4-5. Spring turkey (private land) March 28–May 15, two-gobbler limit; public land April 4–May 15. Feral hogs: no closed season and no bag limit on private land, legal to hunt at night with a light and over bait; on public land taken during any legal season or a dedicated May 16-31 WMA hog season. Small game including squirrel, rabbit, and dove available statewide. Coyote may be taken year-round with no bag limit.

Pike County delivers authentic Georgia Piedmont hunting—rolling pine-hardwood terrain drained by the Flint River and its bottomland tributaries, with whitetail densities among the Southeast's highest (the Piedmont region averages approximately 34 deer per square mile). Although Pike does not rank among Georgia's top trophy counties, the liberal antlerless season and either-sex regulations give hunters excellent opportunity to harvest multiple deer each season. Year-round feral hog hunting on private land adds a significant bonus season. Spring turkey in the hardwood drainages rounds out the calendar. For hunters with private land access, Pike offers a quiet, low-pressure alternative to crowded public WMAs.
