DMU Lincoln, Georgia

Rolling Piedmont hills at 400–550 feet elevation across 210 square miles of land; dominated by mixed loblolly and shortleaf pine over white oak, red oak, and hickory hardwood understory. Lake Thurmond (Clarks Hill Lake) forms the county's eastern and southern border, creating miles of lake-edge habitat along the Little River arm and associated coves. The Savannah River runs the northeastern boundary. Hardwood creek drains cut through the upland pine-hardwood matrix, providing movement corridors and mast-rich feeding areas for deer throughout the season.

Moderate. Lincoln County is small and lightly populated, but proximity to the Augusta metro draws WMA hunters during firearms season, particularly around Clarks Hill Lake. WMA ground here sees less pressure than metro-adjacent properties near Atlanta; midweek hunting can feel uncrowded even in October and November. Opening firearms weekends bring noticeable traffic on public land. Private timber tracts are tightly held by hunting clubs, effectively limiting pressure on the majority of the county's acreage.

Statewide bag limit is 12 deer per season: up to 10 antlerless deer and no more than 2 antlered bucks. One of the two bucks must have at least 4 points (1 inch or longer) on one side or a minimum 15-inch outside antler spread. Lincoln County falls in the Green zone, where either-sex harvest is allowed throughout the entire firearms season. A new antlerless-only firearms weekend (October 4–5, 2025) applies to most Georgia counties including Lincoln, front-loading antlerless opportunity before the main opener.

Deer: archery September 13–October 10; primitive weapons October 11–17; firearms October 18–January 11, 2026; antlerless-only firearms weekend October 4–5, 2025. Spring turkey season opens March 28, 2026 on private land and April 4 on public land, running through May 15; daily limit 1 gobbler, season limit 2; youth and mobility-impaired weekend March 21–22, 2026. Feral hogs are open year-round on private land with no bag limit in Georgia; WMA hog regulations vary by property. Small game including rabbit, squirrel, and raccoon is available on both Clarks Hill WMA-East and Lower Broad River WMA.

Clarks Hill Lake's miles of coves and creek arms create exceptional edge habitat where Piedmont deer funnel between upland ridges and water — stand placement along these transition zones is straightforward and productive. Clarks Hill WMA-East is one of Georgia's largest Corps-managed properties, offering quality deer and turkey hunting in mature mixed pine-hardwood timber with relatively low midweek pressure. Private timber tracts throughout the county hold deer year-round, and the liberal Green-zone antlerless rules allow does to be harvested throughout the entire firearms season, helping landowners manage age structure on well-run club properties. Turkey hunting in the rolling hardwood-pine terrain can be excellent in spring. The county's rural character and modest human footprint keep competition manageable compared to WMAs near major Georgia metros.
