DMU Glascock, Georgia

Glascock County occupies the Fall Line transition zone between Georgia's Piedmont plateau and Upper Coastal Plain in east-central Georgia, roughly 45 miles southwest of Augusta. Relief is gentle, with gently rolling hills of modest elevation. The county — at 144 sq mi Georgia's fourth-smallest — is blanketed in mixed pine-hardwood stands: loblolly and longleaf pine plantations intercut by hardwood creek drains and bottomland hardwoods along major waterways. The Ogeechee River forms the western boundary, providing classic river-bottom deer habitat; Rocky Comfort Creek drains the eastern half. Agricultural fields of peanuts, cotton, corn, and soybeans alternate with managed timber, creating productive food-source and edge habitat throughout.

Low. With minimal public land and a small county footprint, hunting pressure in Glascock is concentrated on controlled private leases. There is no major WMA draw to concentrate hunters. Compared to statewide pressure hotspots around popular WMAs and metro-adjacent counties, Glascock sees comparatively light activity. Private lease holders and landowners encounter manageable competition and have room to manage deer herds for age structure.

Statewide 2025-2026 limit: 12 deer per season (max 10 antlerless, max 2 antlered). One of the two antlered bucks must meet Quality Buck criteria — at least 4 antler points one inch or longer on one side, or a minimum 15-inch outside spread; the second buck must only show visible antler above the hairline. As a Green-region county in the Piedmont/Upper Coastal Plain, Glascock is either-sex throughout the firearms season on private land with no separate antlerless permit required. Turkey: Spring season on private land March 28 – May 15, 2026; public land April 4 – May 15, 2026; 2-gobbler season limit; healthy populations across the mixed agricultural-timber landscape. Feral hog: No closed season on private land, legal year-round with any legal weapon; on public land, hogs follow weapon restrictions of concurrent deer or turkey seasons, plus a special WMA feral hog and coyote season May 16-31. Dove, quail, rabbit, and other small game seasons also available statewide.

Glascock County is quintessential plantation-belt middle Georgia — a mosaic of managed pine plantations, hardwood creek bottoms along the Ogeechee River, and agricultural fields that together produce excellent whitetail habitat. The county's small footprint and private-land-dominated landscape mean deer herds face below-average hunting pressure, giving mature bucks room to develop age structure. The Ogeechee River corridor is a genuine trophy conduit for east-central Georgia, with mature bottomland hardwoods funneling deer movement during the rut. Hunters with private access or lease connections in Glascock encounter quality deer without competing with the crowds common at Georgia's major WMA draws. Feral hogs add a year-round hunting dimension on private land.
