North-central Florida sandhills, longleaf pine flatwoods, hardwood hammocks, and cypress swamps. Goethe WMA contains more than 15 natural community types including old-growth longleaf pine with classic sandhill structure — excellent for deer movement between drains and food sources. Osceola WMA to the northeast transitions to pine flatwoods and wet prairie typical of the Osceola National Forest. The region sits on gently rolling terrain with scattered cypress heads and creek drainages that funnel deer activity.

Annual bag limit 5 deer, max 2 antlerless. Antlerless deer open throughout archery, crossbow, and muzzleloading gun seasons. Antlerless also allowed during a 9-day window within general gun season in DMU B1 specifically. During other portions of general gun season only 1 antlerless permitted per day. Antler restrictions: antlered deer must have at least 3 points (each 1 inch or more) on one antler OR a main beam of 10 inches or more. Spotted fawns are protected.

DEER — Zone B / DMU B1 seasons (2025-2026): Archery/Crossbow Oct 25 – Nov 26; Crossbow extension Dec 1-5; General Gun Nov 27-30 and Dec 13 – Feb 22; Muzzleloader Dec 6-12 and Feb 23 – Mar 1; Youth hunt Dec 6-7. Antlerless open during archery, muzzleloader, and 9-day gun window. HOG — Wild hogs may be taken year-round on most WMAs during open hunting seasons; no license required for hog hunting, but Management Area Permit required on applicable WMAs. Hogs may be taken with any legal weapon during deer season and with firearms or archery gear during dedicated hog seasons. Goethe WMA is specifically noted as one of Florida's best public hog hunting locations. TURKEY (SPRING) — Osceola wild turkey. North of SR 70 zone: Youth weekend Mar 13-16 2026; Regular season Mar 21 – Apr 26 2026. Bag limit 2 gobblers per season. No quota permit required on many WMAs including Goethe. BEAR — DMU B1 is not within an active bear hunting zone. Florida's 2025 bear hunt operated under separate Bear Management Units (East Panhandle, North, Central, South BMUs) via permit drawing. Bears may be present in the Goethe/Osceola corridor but no open season applies to DMU B1 hunters.

Goethe WMA is one of Florida's top-rated public hog hunting areas and holds a strong white-tailed deer population in classic longleaf pine sandhill habitat. Osceola WMA provides vast roadless terrain with low hunting pressure deep in the forest. The combination of a long archery season, generous antlerless rules, and year-round hog hunting makes this one of the most flexible DMUs in Florida for public land hunters.
