More relief than the Coastal Plain but gentler than the deep Ouachitas to the west. Good mix of ridge and bottom hunting terrain.

Moderate. Proximity to the Little Rock metro draws weekend hunters, particularly to Winona State Forest. Weekday hunting on state forest land is lightly pressured. Private land near the Arkansas River bottoms sees steady local pressure from Perryville-area hunters.

Arkansas OTC license with Wildlife Management Deer Permit. Standard statewide regulations and 2-buck bag limit. Arkansas River Valley deer benefit from agricultural food sources and river corridor movement patterns during the November rut.

Wild turkey hunting on Winona State Forest is a reliable spring option with good gobbler numbers in the hardwood ridges. The Arkansas River bottomlands attract wood ducks and occasional mallards during waterfowl season, though the county is not a primary waterfowl destination. Squirrel hunting in the hardwood ridges is an underappreciated early season option that few hunters take advantage of.

Winona State Forest provides accessible public land deer and turkey hunting within close drive of central Arkansas without the competition found on better-known WMAs statewide. Arkansas River Valley rut timing can concentrate bucks along river terraces and creek confluences in November, providing predictable movement windows for patient hunters.
