The county blends agricultural bottomlands with upland hardwoods, creating edge habitat that supports consistent white-tailed deer populations. Low to moderate hunting pressure relative to more accessible parts of the state gives Clay County an underrated character.

Crowley Ridge upland hardwoods provide distinctive loess-hill habitat not found elsewhere in northeast Arkansas; the agricultural-timber edge creates excellent rut funnels in November.
